Ingredients

  • pounds large shrimp peeled and deveined
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 5 cloves garlic minced
  • ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes optional
  • ½ cup chicken broth or dry white cooking wine
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • Lemon slices for garnish

Method

  1. Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels and season lightly with salt and black pepper.
  2. Heat the olive oil and 2 tablespoons of butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Add the shrimp in a single layer and cook for about 1 to 2 minutes per side until pink. Remove the shrimp from the skillet.
  4. Reduce the heat to medium and add the remaining butter.
  5. Stir in the minced garlic and crushed red pepper flakes, cooking for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  6. Pour in the chicken broth or white cooking wine and scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet.
  7. Stir in the lemon juice and lemon zest.
  8. Simmer for 2 to 3 minutes until the sauce slightly reduces.
  9. Return the shrimp to the skillet and toss to coat in the garlic butter sauce.
  10. Sprinkle with chopped parsley and garnish with lemon slices before serving.

Notes

  • Use large or jumbo shrimp for the best texture.
  • Avoid overcooking the shrimp or they will become rubbery.
  • Fresh garlic gives the richest flavor.
  • Fresh lemon juice is recommended over bottled juice.
  • Serve immediately while the sauce is hot.
