Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground chicken or shredded chicken
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 onion diced
  • 1/2 green bell pepper diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce optional
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley chopped

Method

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the diced onion and green bell pepper, cooking until softened.
  3. Stir in the garlic and cook until fragrant.
  4. Add the chicken and cook until fully cooked, breaking it apart as it cooks if using ground chicken.
  5. Season with Cajun seasoning, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  6. Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and hot sauce if using.
  7. Let the mixture simmer for several minutes until thickened and flavorful.
  8. Lightly toast the hamburger buns if desired.
  9. Spoon the Cajun chicken mixture onto the buns.
  10. Garnish with parsley and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use ground chicken for a classic sloppy joe texture.
  • Simmer the sauce long enough for the flavors to blend well.
  • Adjust Cajun seasoning depending on spice preference.
  • Toasting the buns helps prevent them from becoming soggy.
  • Use a thick tomato sauce for richer texture.
  • Stir occasionally to keep the mixture from sticking.
  • Add extra sauce if you prefer a messier sloppy joe style.
