Ingredients

  • 6 large butter croissants torn into large pieces
  • 2 cups diced cooked ham
  • 2 cups shredded Swiss cheese
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley plus more for garnish

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Arrange the torn croissant pieces evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  3. Scatter the diced ham over the croissants.
  4. Sprinkle the Swiss and cheddar cheese evenly over the top.
  5. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and parsley until smooth.
  6. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the croissants, gently pressing the bread down so it absorbs the custard.
  7. Let the casserole rest for 15 minutes before baking.
  8. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until the center is set and the top is golden brown.
  9. Allow the casserole to cool for 10 minutes before serving.
  10. Garnish with additional chopped parsley if desired.

Notes

  • Day-old croissants absorb the custard even better.
  • Cover loosely with foil if the top browns too quickly.
  • Let the casserole rest before slicing for cleaner servings.
  • Use good-quality deli ham for the best flavor.
  • Check that the center reaches 160°F before serving.
