Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
Cook the macaroni according to package directions until al dente.
Drain the pasta and set aside.
In the same pot, melt the butter over medium heat.
Pour in the milk and heat until warm but not boiling.
Gradually add the shredded cheddar cheese, stirring constantly until smooth and melted.
Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
Return the cooked macaroni to the pot.
Stir until all the pasta is coated in the creamy cheese sauce.
Serve immediately while hot and creamy.
