Ingredients
  

  • For the Meatballs
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • ½ cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 green onions finely sliced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • For the Mongolian Sauce
  • ½ cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • Garnish
  • Sliced green onions
  • Sesame seeds

Method
 

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic, green onions, soy sauce, ginger, black pepper, and sesame oil.
  4. Mix until just combined.
  5. Shape the mixture into 18 to 20 evenly sized meatballs.
  6. Arrange the meatballs on the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes, or until cooked through.
  8. Meanwhile, combine the soy sauce, brown sugar, beef broth, hoisin sauce, garlic, ginger, and sesame oil in a large skillet.
  9. Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
  10. Whisk together the cornstarch and water until smooth.
  11. Stir the slurry into the sauce and cook until slightly thickened.
  12. Add the cooked meatballs to the skillet and gently toss until evenly coated.
  13. Simmer for 2 to 3 minutes.
  14. Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
